The United States Army established the Army Strategic Education Program, effective October 1, 2016, to manage the General Officer Education program on behalf of the Chief of Staff of the Army
The ASEP Office became fully operational as of March 1, 2017.
The Army Strategic Education Program will --
- Support Regular Army, Army Reserve and National Guard officers as a Total Army program
- Formalize selection and attendance to meet both Army and officer requirements: putting the right officer in the right course at the right time
- Maintain rigor in the educational programs and the general officer experience
- Reduce redundancy of program courses through convergence; create a coherent, logical progression of educational programs
- Build useful, holistic, full-spectrum program of assessments for each program and lesson, for each officer, and for the ASEP enterprise
- Benefit from 4-star oversight by the Commanding General, TRADOC, with 2-star execution by the Commandant, US Army War College
